Ovell Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 October 2026
Ovell is operated by Luki Digital Ltd ("Ovell," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Who can use Ovell
Ovell is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and the signup process requires confirming your date of birth.
2. Information we collect
Account information - Email address and password (or, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the identifier those services provide), used to create and secure your account. - A username you choose. Usernames are public; your email address never is. - Your date of birth, used only to verify you are 18 or older.
Content you create - The text, drawings, and style choices in the "papers" you write, and any replies or chat messages you send. - Whether you chose to post anonymously. Anonymous content is never linked to your username for other users, but our systems always know which account authored it, for moderation and safety purposes.
Usage and device information - Which papers you have drawn/read, to avoid showing you the same one twice and to calculate read counts. - Your app language and display preferences (ink color, font, fold style, reduce-motion, sound on/off, app lock on/off). - A push-notification device token, if you allow notifications. - Basic crash/diagnostic information if an error occurs.
Moderation information - Reports you file, and reports filed against your content, including the reason given. - Records of accounts you block.
3. How we use this information
- To operate the core features of the app: writing, drawing, reading, replying, and chatting.
- To enforce anonymity: your username and raw identity are never shown to other users on a paper, reply, or chat message marked anonymous, even though our backend always retains the link for accountability.
- To detect and act on harmful content: automated filtering for banned words, contact-information sharing, and self-harm/crisis language, plus a human admin review queue for anything flagged.
- To send you the push notifications you've opted into (someone replied, a chat request, a new message, or a read-count milestone).
- To respond to reports, enforce our Terms of Use, and ban accounts that violate them.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your content to serve third-party advertising.
4. Who can see what
- Other users see only what you choose to share: your papers, replies, and chat messages, under your username or as "Anonymous," depending on your choice per item. They never see your email address, date of birth, or raw account identifiers.
- Moderators (admins) can see the real author of any content in the moderation queue, because accountability requires it, even for content marked anonymous to ordinary users.
- Service providers we rely on to run Ovell, currently Supabase (database, authentication, file storage, and realtime chat delivery) and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notification delivery), process data on our behalf under their own security commitments.
5. How long we keep your information
We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (Settings → Delete account), we permanently delete your profile, papers, replies, chats, and messages. This cannot be undone.
6. Your rights
- Access and correction: most of your own data is visible to you directly in the app (Settings, My Papers).
- Deletion: you can delete your account at any time from Settings. This immediately and permanently removes your data as described above.
- Notification preferences: you can turn each type of push notification on or off independently in Settings → Notifications.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or similar regional privacy laws. To exercise them, contact us using the details below.
7. Security
We use industry-standard practices (encrypted connections, access controls, and row-level security on our database) to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children
Ovell is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a user is under 18, please report their account.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of Ovell after a change means you accept the updated policy.
